Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectable substances used for injection into the dermis, the living tissue below the surface of the skin. They are used mainly to improve volume of the lips and under the skin, which can help to plump out wrinkles or hollows in the lower face caused by the ageing process or loss of facial fat. The results with this procedure are instant.
At Skin Sense GP Clinic, we use Hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers, which is a natural substance found in your body. It is effective for plumping thin lips and filling facial creases. Lip fillers replace the volume, attract water and promote natural renewal of collagen around the injected areas. Hyaluronic acid may also be effective for some surface wrinkles and concave scars, under the eyes and in the forehead region and elsewhere.
Address nasolabial folds (facial creases between the nose and mouth) Improve marionette lines (lines or wrinkles that extend from the outer corners of the mouth down toward the chin) Correct ‘lipstick lines’ around the mouth Restore fuller cheeks Create fullness in the lips Improve forehead frown lines, when used in conjunction with Botox®. Restore fullness in ageing hands with thinning skin
It is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment (if given permission by a physician) in order to reduce bruising.
Fillers have immediate effect and last depending on the area the filler is placed. For the lips, fillers usually last 6-9 months, although we do offer lip fillers that can last 12-15 months. Most fillers have an average of 6-9 months, however when placed in areas such as the tear trough and nose, they can last up to 18 months – 2 years.
Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, those who have a neurological disease, or those allergic to albumin or a constituent of the preservative should not use Fillers.
You may resume normal activities immediately. Although generally safe, dermal filler side effects and complications can include: Temporary bruising is the most common side effect. Swelling Pain at the injection site Headaches, which resolve in 24 to 48hrs can occur but this is rare Nausea Redness No serious adverse effects have been noted when using fillers at the dermatologic doses.
Fillers are not generally covered by insurance when used for cosmetic purposes. Check with your insurance carrier for coverage details.
